Need a hand?

I’m Leyan, the developer of Photo Cull. For questions, bug reports, or suggestions, email photocull@leyanlo.com.

For a bug report, include your device, operating system version, app version, and the steps that led to the problem. You don’t need to send your photos.

Your first review

  1. Allow Photos access, then open a cluster from the gallery.
  2. Open a photo to compare it in the lightbox. Swipe left or right, or zoom in to inspect details.
  3. Use Eliminate to set a weaker photo aside, or Eliminate Others to keep the current photo. Undo reverses your last elimination.
  4. When you’re happy with your choices, use Commit and review the deletion count before confirming. On larger layouts, the button says Commit Winner for one photo or Commit N-Photo Shortlist for several.

Common questions

Why don’t I see any clusters?

Photo Cull looks for bursts and similar photos taken close together; it doesn’t show every photo or find all duplicates across your library. If there are no qualifying groups, the gallery can be empty. With limited Photos access, it can only consider the photos you selected. Check Photos permissions in Settings, then use Scan Again.

Why is a photo or scan taking a while?

Large libraries take longer to scan. Some originals may need to download from iCloud before comparison or full-size viewing. Check your connection and keep the app open while the scan finishes.

What do the scores mean?

Scores help compare photos within a cluster. They consider face visibility, eye openness, sharpness, and composition. They’re estimates and can be wrong. A higher score doesn’t replace your judgment or mean a photo is more meaningful to you. Tap the score’s info button for details.

Does Eliminate delete a photo?

No. Eliminate marks a photo to leave out of your shortlist. You can recover it or undo before committing. The Commit button asks you to confirm the deletion count before deleting through Apple Photos. Delete All also requires confirmation.

How do I recover a photo after confirming deletion?

Open Apple Photos and check Recently Deleted. Recovery follows Apple’s availability and time limits. Photo Cull’s Undo is for uncommitted elimination choices; it does not reverse a completed Photos deletion.

Will deletions affect iCloud or a Shared Photo Library?

Yes. Photo Cull edits your actual Apple Photos library. With iCloud Photos, deletions can sync to your other devices. Changes to a Shared Photo Library can affect other participants. Check the photos and deletion count carefully before confirming.

Will I lose my place when I close the app?

Photo Cull saves review progress on this device, including your shortlist, undo history, and current photo. It does not sync your review progress between devices. If you see a save error, keep the app open and use Retry Save after freeing storage.

Is Photo Cull free? Does it track me?

Photo Cull is free, with no ads, subscriptions, tracking, or account requirement. Photo analysis runs on your device. Read the privacy policy for details.
